Bali Special: Offerings

Once you are in Bali, it's hard to miss these offerings. They are everywhere, on roadsides buildings, shrines... These offering are known as Banten and they are meant for the unseen inhabitants of Bali, the gods, spirits,ancestors and demons. The base is usually made from young coconut leaves, some even with elaborate design. It contain flowers, fruits, rice, cakes, sweets and at times small token of money.

Making the Banten is an art in itself. Most of those seen on the roadsides are simple but they can get real elaborate and huge especially for use in special ceremonies.

Most of the offering content are made up of organic materials that can be found in Balinese garden or homes.
