The Perfect Bag?

There is no perfect bag but you may come close to finding one. With the baby, there are now more things to carry when we venture out. Have been reading reviews and feedback from friends on camera bags. For me, the bag should cater for a DSLR camera, hold a laptop and some accessories.

Looking around, the main brands available here are Tenba, Kata, Tamrac and the ever popular Lowepro. After narrowing down the choices, Lowepro Fastpack 350 and Tamrac Adventure 9 fits my requirements. Both have compartments for DSLR, a 15inch laptop (the 350 fits a 17inch) and a top compartment for daily essentials.

With a $30 difference the Tamrac Adventure 9 clearly stands out against the Lowepro.

  1. Better shoulder padding and tougher material, feels very solid
  2. The zipper feels very smooth
  3. The Tamrac camera compartment is easily accessible although the Lowepro has a side entry opening. Tamrac quick release buckle is also easier to access.
  4. Overall the Tamrac bag looks and feels more professional.
  5. Looks like an ordinary daypack, will not draw much attention as compared to other branded bags.

The camera compartment fits my D90 with kit lens and grip mounted, an additional lens, milk powder container and 2-3 Advent bottles. The velcro system surrounds the entire walls which means you can freely adjust the padding for fit.

Back compartments holds the laptop.

Top compartment, although not very spacious holds baby's clothing and daipers. The two side mesh pockets holds additional bottles. For users who require a bigger capacity, they can opt for the Adventure 10.
