The process of making the first Blurb book provides invaluable experience. The 2nd book, Taiwan Travelogue 2008 will be bigger, thicker and better! Hopefully. It is no different whether you print a book or an album. It's always the process of selection, layout, DI, dealing with composition and eventually the adrenaline rush when you receive that book from the Postman!
Here's what I normally do.
1. Select a theme, this keep your album in focus.
2. Selection of images. Select images that you like, remember it is your own photo book. You can always filter away the "unwanted" images.
3. In the process of selecting the images, think of the composition and layout. Would this image work when placed with that image? Do I need to crop?
4. Layout. This is one of the most difficult and time consuming process. Everyone has their own preference. Some people love to place only 1 images per page (most pro. does that) or you can design a collage.
5. Digital enhancing process. Adjusting the level, contrast, correct the skin tone color etc.
6. Previewing the book. You can print out a smaller version or even collate into a PDF binder. This gives you an idea of how your book will be viewed. Does the images flow? Does it tell the story you wanted to? Did you miss out an image? For those who includes some form of text description, you may like to check on the Typo!
7. Uncertainty! You need to remind yourself that your computer screen is never calibrated to the printer, thus color will never be accurate. In most cases the color deviation should be in an acceptable range provided that you have shot and post process your images well. Remember, rubbish in..rubbish out!
Enjoy the process.

really helpful, thanks
great tips! hal n i are gonna get so busy blurbing haha!
btw, digital enhancing comes before layout rite? or u'll be able to adjust overall colour in blurb??
Hi Dewi, I layout in PS, thus DI after I confirmed the layout, but process can differ from pp. I do not use the template in Blurb. That give me more control in layout and typography.
Oh..great! Thanks! :)
