The IXUS 860 takes fabulous images in bright daylight but fails terribly when comes to high ISO setting. Although it is equipped with the new DIGIC III processor and features advanced Noise Reduction Technology, it does not seems to help when ISO >400.

the hi-iso prob, i also experience it for my canon ixus 75. so, there's no way to improve this??

The noise issue is common at high ISO (Point & Shoot DC) and also depends on the lighting condition when you shoot. It's just a matter of time when Canon improves on this. So far, only Fuji(P&S) camera handles high ISO well.
Try shooting at ISO<400 or use the Flash when indoor.

or last resort, buy an SLR!!! :D
Yes, a SLR will be great,it will be able to capture those moments as kids tend to move around quite a bit. P&S can be slow in capturing that moment. But again, you wld not want to lug around a DSLR when you have the stroller, diaper bag...
