A happy day out at the playground, swinging on the monkey bar has landed my nephew with a dislocation and bone fracture. Read more about Supracondylar Fractures (elbow fracture). So how safe is our playground design? The government has updated the SS 457: 2007 Playground Equipment for Public Use. This provides a guide for the design, installation and maintenance of playgrounds.

Children often treat these playgrounds as battle fields. Some even practice high risk maneuvers that they seen in superheroes movies. In the article Playground related injuiries, it's interesting to note that 90% of the injuries occurs with the present of a care-giver. The statistics also pointed out that the monkey bar is the main culprit which constitute to 54.4% of the injuries, with the largest age group between 5-12 yrs of age.
