鬼月

In Chinese custom, the seven month in the Chinese Calendar is the Ghost Month, where ghost, spirits and our deceased ancestors would make a trip from the "other world" to visit earth. During the month, we celebrate the Hungry Ghost Festival where numerous rituals are performed, and food, hell money are offered to the deceased.

This is the building where the deceased "live".

Family members would place their offering on the table. Most of the time, these are the deceased favorite dishes.

We brought vegetarian food, fruits and drinks. The paper money and Mercedes are offering belonging to our neighbour, to ensure the deceased lead a comfortable life in the other world.

After cremation, the deceased are placed in urns. In the past, the urns are expose. Family members would clean off the dust, the same notion of clearing the tombstone surounding.

My dad and grandmother "lives" on the lower floors

In contrast, my grandfather "lives" high up. I am unsure if we are able to relocate all our ancestors on a common level? I guess it could be possible at a certain cost. Read more.

After the ritual, we would pay respect to the deities residing in different halls around the temple compound.

Tentage and tables setup for the mass offering next week.
